Malevo consists of a group of eight men from Buenos Aires, Argentina that play Argentine folklore, specifically malambo (The malambo is a dance traditionally performed by gauchos: born around the 1600s in the Pampa, it’s a dance performed solely by men to the beat of the bombo legüero drum and is an exception within Argentine folklore in that it isn’t accompanied by singing or lyrics).
In their own words: “We are the Magic Mike of Argentina.” They were tagged as the “sexy” group of the 11th season of America’s Got Talent. One of their performances consisted of beating drums in a horizontal line, tap dancing in gaucho’s boots in unison, and finally tap dancing on a small pool such that water would splash across the stage and on the dancers, all to System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!”. Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave the group standing ovations.
Malevo was the only dance act to make it to the Semifinals of Season 11!
