An experienced magician, illusionist and clean comedian, Matt Roberts is an easy-to-work-with professional who tailors his performances to fit a variety of clients and venues. In just one example, he created a unique magical concert experience in 2010 called, Music & Magic, which he now performs annually at Boston’s 2500-seat Symphony Hall, home of The Boston Pops, developing new illusions and audience participation pieces each year. By request, Matt can make VIPs magically appear, make products or gifts materialize out of thin air or incorporate event themes into his show.
In addition to his live performances, Matt is no stranger to television. He is the recipient of two Emmy Award nominations for his work as the host of his own prime-time television series, The Power of Giving on PBS, presented by Newman’s Own Foundation. He has been interviewed by Ann Curry and Al Roker as an invited guest on NBC’s Today Show. He is frequently recognized as “that guy from the Walmart commercials!” (he was selected in 2013 to host a major ongoing TV campaign for the retailer, clips seen here) and has appeared in more than a dozen other TV spots and many corporate videos for STAPLES, Amica, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Coastway Bank, Liberty Mutual, National Geographic, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, among others. Since 2008, he has also appeared regularly at the 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena as the official host/emcee for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun and WNBA All-Star Games, using his humor, magic and audience interaction skills to make commercial breaks, time-outs and half-time more fun! In 2012 and 2013, The Basketball Hall of Fame selected Matt to emcee their popular NCAA Tip-Off Tournament and he hosted the 2014 WNBA Draft in cooperation with ESPN.
Also an experienced actor, Matt holds a B.A. in Theatre and began his career starring as the magical host of VEE Corporation’s $3 million production of Sesame Street Live: Elmo’s Coloring Book on a two-year, 600-performance tour that put him onstage alongside the beloved Muppets in front of huge audiences (including Sharon Stone in the front row one night!) at Madison Square Garden and venues in 31 states and 13 countries. Also in the ‘dream-come-true’ file, Matt is on the performer roster at The Jim Henson Company. He participated in the initial workshop for Henson’s Off-Broadway improv show, Stuffed and Unstrung and has been fortunate to work closely with Oscar-winning composer Paul Williams and Jim Henson’s son, Brian, on special projects. In 2014 he was part of a small, invited workshop for Sesame Street, the television show!
“Matt Roberts is not only truly gifted at his craft; he is also a wonderful person. Matt performed at our corporate dinner and he was a huge hit with all our guests. He was like a perfect drink or dessert at the end of a big dinner…just enough, not too heavy, easy to digest. And he was FUNNY! Matt worked with me from day one to personalize the show and he arrived at the venue early and was extremely professional, personable and patient. He put a smile on even the most stern face and he was the perfect partner in my facilitation of the night’s events. I will most definitely use him in the future and recommend him to everyone I know! Thanks Matt!” – Jennifer Ceolinski, Associated Equipment Distributers Conference
