DJ Poison Ivy –

In an industry where males still dominate, emerges an unapologetically zealous, multi-culturally influenced curator of music, fashion, sports, entertainment and all things female empowerment, Poizon Ivy The DJ. Whether behind the turntables deejaying on-air, on main concert stages, at select nightclubs and lifestyle venues, for celebrity and non-profit events, and for corporate clients or in front of the camera as a media personality, actress, and model, the talented empress has rapidly become the “face to watch” internationally, synonymous with diversity and her iconic charisma.

Born Ivy Awino in the Lang’ata suburb of Nairobi, Kenya, and raised in Dallas, Texas, Ivy mastered both the piano and cello before discovering her love for yet another instrument: turntables. She got her first break hosting her self-titled weekly online radio show, “Poizon Ivy After Dark” on WMUR, Marquette University’s student ran radio station. In a few short years, Ivy rose in ranks from dominating the college party scene to setting off the city’s largest concert stages opening for some of the most notorious names in music: Nas, Wiz Khalifa, Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B, J. Cole and Juicy J to name a few.

A bonafide sports aficionado, Poizon Ivy has managed to not only create waves for herself in the music world but also in the sports realm. She’s currently the official deejay for Skylar Diggins’ Shoot 4 The Sky Basketball Camp Tour, and the team DJ for both the Dallas Wings (WNBA) and Dallas Mavericks (NBA).

With her spirit of transcending boundaries and creating history, Poizon Ivy became the first female mixer to grace the airwaves at WKKV-FM as a V100.7 Mix Squad DJ in 2013. She’s also a contributing mixer on Nairobi’s 103.5 Homeboyz Radio. A frequent guest mixer, she has also been featured on Sirius XM’s Sway In the Morning on Shade 45 and DASH Radio to name a few. As one of the most in-demand talents in the country, she has been called on by major brands, corporations, and non-profits including Atlantic Records, Red Bull, Adidas, Mountain Dew, Ashley Stewart, and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Poizon Ivy does not only aspire to impact those who listen to her mix, she impacts young women in various endeavors. When she’s not honing her skills, Ivy is a devoted mother, she’s advocating for various causes, working with nonprofit organizations that enable young women pursuing careers in music, mentoring young mothers, and working with organizations that aide health issues affecting young women.

“When it’s all said and done, I am a woman. So in whatever I do, I proudly do it as a woman and I do it damn well!” says Poizon Ivy.
