This creative impulse was fostered throughout his twenties via collaboration with a series of bands while working as an attorney in Chicago. At last heeding music as a full-time calling, he left the corporate grind and released his first album, The Chicago EP, in 2012, followed by the full-length album, “Before I Forget, which was released in February 2015.
“Before I Forget is a curated distillation of experiences and impressions drawn from the exhilarating, and at times, heartbreaking moments I spent as an ambivalent twenty-something student and professional in Chicago, searching for meaning in my often-failed relationships and half-hearted career choice,” says Lucas, who is responsible for songwriting, vocals, piano, and organ on the album.
Lucas Jack describes himself as a “recovering attorney,” in reference to the 5 dismal years he spent as a lawyer battling the liars and scallywags in Chicago before heeding his true calling as a songwriter and performer. Fortunately, Lucas has managed to convert those experiences into fodder for his own unique brand of songwriting.
Lucas Jack tackles complicated topics with the precision and poignancy of Dawes and The Hold Steady, while incorporating the tone, passion, and pop sensibility of Ben Kweller and Ben Folds. With his powerful tenor voice, Lucas Jack examines the complexities of love, life, frustration and individual triumph. His catchy pop-rock tunes create a sense of nostalgia in listeners, allowing them to access their own emotions and memories through the stories Lucas tells.
After just 2 whirlwind years of a full-time music career, Lucas Jack has already opened up for Foreigner, and worked with Grammy-nominated producer Mack Damon on Before I Forget. The album was mastered by Grammy-award winner Greg Calbi (Paul Simon Graceland and St. Vincent Birth In Reverse) at Sterling Sound.
