Program outline
Everyone knows that every now and then it is important to step back and look at the ‘big picture’, particularly when looking at an organisation and how its people operate and communicate internally. In Big Picture the importance of teamwork, cooperation and communication is reinforced through the process of painting an artistic masterpiece of truly epic proportions.
The Big Picture team building exercise commences with individuals joining into small teams; with each team being responsible for painting one or several individual canvases. Each canvas is small segment, which will make up the final Big Picture artwork. Teams collect brushes, paint, a diagram outlining their individual canvas and, a blank canvas. They then set about as a team to mix paints to create the right colours and paint their canvas.

Soon into the exercise, teams realise that in order for the overall artwork to be successful, they need to cooperate with other teams rather than compete. With this in mind, they consult and cooperate with the teams who have canvases joining theirs, to ensure the lines and colour match up. By doing so, they take a “Big Picture” view instead of an individual team view to ensure that each canvas joins perfectly and the final result is a success.

Once complete, while the delegates move to a different space for breakout time, the canvases from all the teams are collected, framed together and then the final artwork with covered from view behind a large cloth veil. The highlight of The Big Picture is the final reveal where, following a debriefing session, the masterpiece is unveiled to all participants for the first time, which always results in loud cheers and thundering applause.

Learning and development outcomes
Prior to the activity, our graphic designers work with you to create an artwork that is reflective of your goals, values, mission and vision. Then on the day, your team recreate this unique artwork on a massive scale, literally creating a vision of the future. Aspirational in its scale, and with a spectacular reveal, the Big Picture is truly a golden moment for any company to celebrate a shared vision and be inclusive with its employees.

Since its inception more than 15 years ago, the Big Picture has been refined to ensure multiple levels of communication between teams. This makes it the perfect demonstration of how collaboration, networking and a big picture focus can lead to outstanding results. The bespoke masterpiece created by your team serves both as a review tool and a reminder of learnings from the activity – it can also be installed back in your workplace.
