more about
Dallas’ original Hunter Sullivan has been compared to everyone, from Bobby Darrin to Frank Sinatra to George Clooney. With the looks of a matinee idol and the chops of Bobby Darin, comes Hunter Sullivan. The native Dallasite has refined his take on mellow swing. Old standards such as “Just One of Those Things” and Mr. Darin’s “Rainin’ ” don’t sound quite as old anymore, while originals such as “King for a Day” and “Love Me” could have been released back when Frank Sinatra really was Chairman of the Board.
Mr. Sullivan has come far through a mix of happy accidents. Dennis Hopper was so taken with Mr. Sullivan’s rendition of “Mack the Knife” that he flew the singer out to California to entertain at a party at his home in Venice. Fellow crooner Harry Connick Jr. found a recent set in Austin inspiring enough to jump onstage.
Hunter Sullivan’s performance is exciting to watch, and his music will make you want to dance.
Hunter Sullivan is a singer, songwriter, musician, actor, and performer based out of the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. He leads a number of ensembles, ranging from jazz trios, original rock groups, and most notably, a 14-piece big band with a ten-piece horn section. He and his band have traveled to places as varied as Bahamas, Singapore, England, Hawaii, Shreveport, Nebraska, Japan, Thailand, and have played many shows on the east and west coasts of America, as well a number of shows in and around Las Vegas (Caesar’s Palace, New York New York, Las Vegas Hilton).
Hunters first album, King For A Day, was co-produced with Hunter by the legendary Nik Venet, who produced albums for, among others, The Beach Boys, Bobby Darin, Chet Baker and Linda Ronstadt. Hunter is currently working with Grammy nominated producer Paul Loomis on his next original release.
Hunter and his band deliver an energetic authenticity to a genre that has been fabricated, adulterated, and otherwise compromised by the opportunistic and the ignorant. His craft is something he takes seriously, and thankfully, so do his fans. He has a list of celebrity clients that is growing (Dennis Hopper, Gary Busey, Prince Albert of Monaco, Chuck Norris, etc.), and does numerous shows a year for corporate clients of the Fortune-500 variety. He annually donates a portion of his time and services to philanthropic organizations in and around Texas. He is based out of Dallas and enjoys performing locally as well.
